About the Countertop Microwave Oven
One of the most high-tech kitchen appliances found in most homes today is the countertop microwave oven. The technology that gave birth to this modern marvel is radar. One day, a technician from Raytheon was fiddling with an active radar set when he found out that a piece of chocolate bar that was in range was melting. The microwave radiation emitted by the radar was cooking the candy bar! As a fruit of this accidental discovery (or invention?), the world's first microwave oven came into being. Compared to today's compact countertop microwaves, the Radarange was a monster that weighed 340 kilograms and cost 5,000 dollars each.
After its discovery in 1945, is an indispensable kitchen tool for most families who are hard pressed for time. Innovations added to most modern units dispel the notion that microwave oven cooking produces bland and boring results. For example, a convection microwave oven combines the speed of microwave cooking with the ability to brown foods. Other ovens have high powered halogen bulbs that heat the surface of the food at high temperatures using infrared radiation thus adding browning abilities to the oven.
Most countertop microwave ovens have settings that control the oven's power level. Internally, the magnetron that is the source of the oven's microwave energy has only one level of power output, what the power setting control does is to turn the magnetron on and off depending on the power setting chosen. So if one wants higher power output, the magnetron works in longer duty cycles. The magnetron can be heard if it is working when the humming sound in the oven changes.
There are three size categories of countertop microwave. The smaller model is labeled by the industry as portable or desktop units. The most common size is about 11 inches tall and 15 inches wide and about 10 inches deep. The bigger countertop model is called the compact microwave oven. These ovens are at least 20 inches wide, 14 inches deep and 12 inches tall. Compact size models are the most popular ovens. The largest oven which can still be considered countertop microwaves is called the medium-capacity oven. These models are a bit larger than the compact ovens and have capacities from 30 to 45 liters.
The most important safety feature when cooking using microwave oven is that there is considerably lower risk of scalding and burning. For example, the walls of the oven rarely get burning hot unlike conventional ovens. The container used in cooking the food rarely gets hotter than 100 degrees, or the boiling point of water. A cooking pot fresh from the gas range or an electric stove is considerably hotter and always poses the danger of creating 1st degree burns. The lower cooking temperature lowers the chances of food getting charred which have been identified to be cancer causing.
The fast cooking time and compact space occupied by countertop microwave ovens make it one of the most popular kitchen appliances. No wonder then most of today's busy families have one at home.

Microwave Ovens
One of the most useful cooking devices ever introduced in contemporary times is the microwave oven. Those who find cooking a tedious job and are running out of time for cooking will find microwave ovens the most effective device. Cooking has never been so simple, less time consuming, and efficient. Ovens trim down the cooking time noticeably from hours to minutes! You need not use much oil and your food does not evaporate into the air when being cooked, so you get to eat healthy food. Use of ovens helps preserve the nutritional qualities of the food.
When ovens were first introduced in the market, not everyone could buy them owing to the expensive tag associated with the same. With time, more and more companies cropped up and stiff competition arose amongst brands. This is the reason why the prices of ovens have come down drastically making them pocket friendly for the common man. Starting from say Rs. 4,000, the price goes up with the additional features and automatic mechanism incorporated. The higher the price, the more advanced will be your system.
There are microwave ovens that can cook four different types of food at the same time with different auto mechanisms for all. Right from simple daal to rice, parantha and pizzas, you can cook everything in today's microwave ovens. And if you buy these electronic devices from an online shopping mall, you can gain a competitive advantage, especially on the money factor. The great discounts offered can help you grab the most advanced one at prices that won't burn a hole in your pocket. So, go online, compare brands of microwave ovens in terms of features and prices and accordingly buy the one that is the best. Once you pay using your credit or debit card, a safe payment gateway, you can receive your product right at your doorstep within the committed time frame. It takes a week or ten days at the most to receive a product.
The heating mechanism of ovens is different from the conventional heating source. Food in microwave ovens gets heated or cooked with the help of microwaves rather than heating coils/rods as used in other electrical heating devices. In the heating process, microwave rays fall directly on the food contents placed in the oven and as per the heating temperature set, change the molecular pattern of the food, converting it into cooked state.

What Can You Do About EMFs? Part 1
www.emfnews.org www.emfnews.org www.emfnews.org The Office of Technology Assessment of the Congress of the United States recommends a policy of 'prudent avoidance' with respect to EMF. Prudent avoidance means to measure fields, determine the sources, and act to reduce exposure. 1. Detect EMFs in your home and work environment. You have to know where the sources of EMF are in your everyday world and how strong these sources are. Is there wiring in the wall behind your bed that you don't even know about? Is the vaporizer emitting strong fields in the baby's room? How much EMF are you and your family getting from the power lines in the street? Get a meter, share it with your friends, and test the areas where you spend time. 2. Diminish your exposure to the EMFs you find. Remember that EMFs go right through doors and walls. Determine how far you must stay away from the EMF emitters in your home & work environment to achieve less than 2.5 mG of exposure... the microwave oven, the alarm clock, the computer, and so on. Rearrange your furniture (especially the beds, desks, and couches where you spend the most time) away from heaters, wiring, and fluorescent lights, electric doorbells, and other EMF 'hot spots'. Test electrical appliances before you buy with a hand held meter in the store. Know what you are buying and buy the lowest EMF emitter. Where practical, replace your electric appliances with non-electric devices. www.emfnews.org www.emfnews.org

Cooking Appliances
There are so many different types of cooking appliances available on today's market. There are the more traditional range cookers, hobs, built in ovens, double ovens, cooker hoods and the most recent advance in cooking technology- the microwave. All have their advantages and disadvantages and the one that you choose will depend on your preference of style, the size of your kitchen, the space you have available in it and the amount of money that you have to spare on your new cooking appliances.
Microwaves have definitely shaped the way in which we cook over the last couple of decades. Meals that used to take hours to prepare, now can take a matter of minutes with a simple touch of a button and a stir half-way through. Not only do microwaves help you to save on cooking time, but they can also help you to save on your cleaning time too- no more scraping scrambled egg off of your 'non- stick' saucepan after a full English breakfast. Of course, many people like to be able to put a labour of love into cooking family meals and for that, you really need to be using more traditional cooking appliances.
Range cookers look great in a traditional or a contemporary kitchen and have everything that you need combined into one cooking appliance- that is your oven, your grill and your hob all in one. Of course, the colours and styles that are available to you differ between manufacturers. If you do not mind paying a little extra, Britannia has one of the largest selections of colours for cooking appliances and even patterns so that you can fully customise your home to just the way you want it. But there are plenty of more basic options available from dozens of manufacturers in black, white and stainless steel that are still practical, but come with a bit of a smaller price tag.
Range cookers are freestanding cooking appliances, but more and more, people are having their cooking appliances integrated into their design and built in ovens and hobs that are built in to the existing counter look sleek and match easily with the rest of your cooking space, helping you to keep everything coordinated. The main problem that comes with built in ovens is that they are lower down than most freestanding ovens- not great for if you have a bad back- but if you can handle the height then they can really give your kitchen that modern look.
Whether you do decide upon a freestanding range cooker or on a built in oven and hob, there are still more options available to you and they rely almost entirely on your preference when it comes to cooking. The three main choices that you have when choosing a new hob are gas, ceramic and induction, but Domino hobs have been introduced to the cooking appliances market recently as well. Domino hobs allow you to combine different types of hobs into one. For example, you can choose to have two gas burners and two ceramic zones, some manufacturers offer a Chef Top, which is a new and healthy way to cook on the hob and makes your food taste great too. Gas is still a household favourite because of its controllability, but induction hobs are becoming more and more popular because they are safe and cook food far more efficiently than other types of hob.
Another addition to the contemporary style is the very practical (and often stylish) cooker hood. The cooker (or extractor) hood, like many other modern cooking appliances, comes in a range of different styles, the main ones being canopy hoods, chimney hoods, island chimney hoods and integrated hoods. The job of a cooker hood is basically to ventilate your kitchen for you and to get rid of 'used' air and grease particles. The cooker hood does this by replacing them with fresh air particles. You could do this by leaving a door or window open because of natural air movement, but this is dependant on the air temperatures, which in turn is dependent on the time of the year. For example, in the warmer summer months this process is unlikely to be very effective because there is, in theory, less likely to be a breeze and the air does not feel fresh. But in the winter the natural process is effective, but you are likely to either get very cold or spend a lot of money on heating that is being lost through open doors and windows. This is why a cooker hood is the best option for effectively ventilating and keeping the air fresh.
